BIOGRAPHY

Jason Zacher has garnered national acclaim as a versatile and promising emerging talent in opera, concert, and musical theatre. Praised for his “resonant baritone voice, acting skills to burn, and most important, an alluring persona that dominated the stage every moment he was on” (Opera News), Zacher continues to captivate audiences with his dynamic presence and vocal command.

This season, he makes company and role debuts with Portland Opera as Colline in La bohème, Salt Marsh Opera and Tulsa Opera as the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, Kentucky Opera in All is Calm, and Sarasota Opera as Olin Blitch in Susannah. He also joins Chattanooga Symphony and Opera as the bass soloist in Verdi’s Requiem.

Recently completing a two-year tenure as a studio artist at The Atlanta Opera, Mr. Zacher appeared in productions of Frankenstein, Rigoletto, La bohème, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Magic Flute, and Macbeth. Last season, he performed Pangloss/Voltaire with South Florida Symphony in Candide, Enrico VIII with Resonance Works in Anna Bolena, bass soloist with Worcester Chorus in Messiah, returned to his alma mater as bass soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at Montclair State University, and appeared in gala concerts with Tulsa Opera and Central City Opera. He also returned to Central City Opera last summer as the Wizard in Once Upon a Mattress and for their Opera’s Greatest Hits concert.

His recent engagements include multiple appearances at Carnegie Hall as bass soloist in Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with MidAmerica Productions and Handel’s Messiah with The Masterwork Chorus. He has also appeared several times at The Glimmerglass Festival, where he portrayed Uncle/Witness #9 in Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell’s Elizabeth Cree, stepped in for the role of Argante in Rinaldo, and performed in concert alongside award-winning singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant and Anthony Roth Costanzo. Mr. Zacher was also awarded second prize in the prestigious Lotte Lenya Competition (2024) and was named a New York district winner in the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition (2023).

A former studio artist at Kentucky Opera, Mr. Zacher earned praise for his roles in La bohème, La Cenerentola, and The Gift of the Magi. He has spent multiple summers with Des Moines Metro Opera, most recently singing Jimmy in the Midwest premiere of Damien Geter and Lila Palmer’s American Apollo, as well as covering Bottom and Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Jupiter in Platée.

To date, Mr. Zacher has received top accolades from competitions and organizations including the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Kurt Weill Foundation, Jensen Foundation, Annapolis Opera, James Toland Vocal Arts, Rochester Oratorio Society, Opera Birmingham, and National Opera Association, among others. He holds degrees from Montclair State University (B.M. Music Education) and the University of Houston (M.M. Vocal Performance).
